Yeager's Artist's Statement
"Art is not in the eye of the beholder,
It's in the soul of the Artist."

I have enjoyed art for as long as I can remember. Some of my fondest memories include being immersed in art in some way. Before I was old enough to attend school, I had my favorite corner in the living room. The corner contained a wooden work table my father had made just for me, a cigar box overflowing with old and worn crayons, my paints, and mountains of paper. I selected that particular corner because of the warm, glowing sunbeam that illuminated the entire table; the warmth and natural light lulled me into my own world driven by my imagination that was unleashed through the drawings and paintings I created.
My parents were artistic. My father was a skilled woodworker and educator, and his love for the artform could be seen in the furniture he had made throughout our home.
While untrained, my mother was a photographer with a gifted natural eye for composition. At family outings, when the adults shared photos of us kids, Mom's pictures popped while the other pictures seemed flat and lifeless.

As I grew my interest in photography grew, as well. My mother recognized my interest and bought me an old Brownie camera at an auction for a quarter. She supplied me with as much film as I wanted and paid for all the processing at a time when money was hard to come by for our family. She nurtured my interest.
Years later, I found myself taking photography classes in college. There I learned many of the composition techniques my mother came by naturally.
I also see myself as an artist, much like my parents. However, I feel my medium is not woodworking or even photography. Instead, I feel that my medium is education. I will freely admit that there are better teachers than I am, and I am not saying that my teaching is a work of art. I am saying that teaching itself is an artform. I enjoy the creative process of researching new assignments and learning new techniques. I enjoy seeing students embrace and enjoy and apply and improve upon the skills I have taught them. Teaching is the artform that allows me to be the conduit between technology and art and my students' joy of being creative.
